Our family loves Zia. We eat it 3 to 4 times a month. We love that it is affordable, has good portions and tastes great!! One comment is to double check your order when you check out. 9 out of 10 times we are overcharged and we have to go over the order with the staff. They tend to charge for meat or fixings or for a larger portion. Since we go there so much I know exactly what I order in their 'lingo' and correct them. My friend accidentally navigated us here instead of the other Mexican place we were going to try… but it was a happy accident with a tasty end! I got their beef enchilada special of the day, which was a heaping pile of rich, flavorful food. Chipotle style fast casual but way tastier and more authentic. Price wasn’t bad for what you get. Ok first and foremost. Totally understand the need to rush people to make their minds up of what we want to get “to a degree”. First, a courtesy smile goes a long way. Looking like you might be annoyed of our indecisiveness, it would help to give us ideas to push us along. Tortilla soup did not have tortillas strips but was informed they were in soup. Also told it would be an extra charge for more. The Mexican wedding cookie I got was half size that of my boyfriends at $2.00 plus. Was told sorry about that. A bit annoyed this time. We came in on a week night. There was a long line of customers waiting. It moved slowly. There were limited spots to sit inside. The food was fresh and tasted good. We had nacho, tacos, bowls and the tortilla soup. The workers were friendly (just maybe over worked by the crowd of customers). Fish tacos should not be served in a basket with a paper liner when you juice or sauces to deal with. Sauce causes tortilla to tear. You should probably use 2 tortillas for fish tacos so they don't rip open when trying to eat them. Tacos were tasty , just messy. They were served it in a basket and with one tortilla. Made it difficult to eat. I had to get a fork, and now I'm trying to eat taco debris off a paper liner in a basket. No Bueno! We love Zia’s when we travel to Durango. The food is always fresh and very good. Today, first person to serve with our order was unhappy, seemed distracted and upset and wouldn’t smile or engage with us. Others were pleasant to us. Food was excellent and fresh. I really enjoyed the sweet potatoes in the bowl. That said, I'm giving it 4 stars because the pricing, portions, and allowed items were confusing/unclear. We probably could have asked more questions, but with a group of 2 adults and 3 teens it was little chaotic. One teen got a "small bowl" and I had to send her back through to pay for another small bowl after she finished it because she was still hungry. I think we weren't clear on how it worked, and she probably could have gotten more food in that first bowl. The servers kept saying items cost extra so the kids ended up with partially filled bowls. I'm sure we would be more successful after another trip where we're knew what questions to ask, but the menus are light on information.
