Purchased 1.5 pounds of Carnitas... the line was slow and long... it was also hot in there... once I was being helped, 2 more females cane out from the back... where were they before 😭😭... I have an injured back and was struggling to stand so long... on the plus side, the carnitas were delicious. I used the meat to make tortas at home, and my family all approved. I have been eating at Vargas since I was around 13years when I went to north park jr.high. my favorite is chelie relleno with green chilies and carnitas second would be soft tostada with green chilies and carnitas. I'm now 67 years old and my two brothers and I eat food from there at least 3, times a month. Seen on Instagram that this was best place in Pico for burritos, not even close, food was bland, no flavor at all, had green burrito and it was mostly green sauce, what a buzz kill was ready for a good burrito but sadly it was not, place was clean, ladies all nice, but food did not live up too hype. Ordered a chile relleno burrito. I liked the fact that it was not greasy. Lacked a little bit of flavor, salt, which is okay. Still good. Be prepared to wait in line for at least 15 minutes or so if its busy. Well worth it. Seems like its family owned. Very lovely people. Great spot for locals only, price is cheap, make sure you ask for rice cause that's extra, they charge for everything. Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4

The food was just okay. I got the chile rellenos and a carne asada burrito, and a chicharrón taco. The asada burrito hardly had any meat, they actually weigh it and then put a tiny bit of meat. The chicharrón taco was super watery and very spicy. I also asked for some sauce to make my burrito taste better but they wanted to charge me an extra $1 so I said "forget it".. Stopped by to buy a couple of tacos and was shocked to see that a place with the reputation and success that has been given to Vargas deli by its consumers how they put a Styrofoam cup on a scale and actually weigh the amount of meat that's put into a taco and will even pull out one little stitch of meat if overweight. Chili Verde Burrito with Beans and Cheese! Add the pork meat from the Chili Verde yummy. Weekend bring you kettle for a fill-up of Menudo at 6am great hangover cure. My first time here was 1966. We now live in OC wife will jump in car no problem for the handmade, from fresh ingredient, Burrito's. Carnitas, Tamales, Beans, Carne Asada, etc. Nothing out of a can!!! FAMILY owned and run, prepared just like your Abuela made it.
