I've heard a lot about this restaurant, but unfortunately, the taste seems to be tailored to suit local preferences rather than authentic Indian cuisine. We ordered Dosa which was completely dry in taste and stuffing has no taste. Additionally, despite being extremely busy, the service is disappointingly slow. Overall, it was a rather disappointing experience. I sincerely hope they can enhance both the taste and efficiency of their service. Madras Diaries in Amsterdam is an absolute culinary gem, and my recent dining experience was nothing short of extraordinary. I had the pleasure of indulging in the Palli Palayam Kozhi Biryani and Chemmeen Biryani, and let me tell you, they were simply amazing. The Palli Palayam Kozhi Biryani was a symphony of flavors, each bite bursting with authenticity and perfectly cooked chicken. The Chemmeen Biryani, featuring succulent shrimp, was a delightful dance of spices that elevated my taste buds to new heights. Beyond the exceptional food, the ambiance at Madras Diaries is a perfect blend of warmth and sophistication. The attentive and friendly staff added a personal touch to the experience, ensuring every moment was memorable. For those craving an unforgettable journey through South Indian flavors in Amsterdam, Madras Diaries is an absolute must-visit. The Palli Palayam Kozhi Biryani and Chemmeen Biryani are culinary masterpieces that deserve to be savored. Prepare your taste buds for an explosion of authenticity and pure satisfaction. We visited this restaurant during our trip to Amsterdam. It’s a nice place for lunch or dinner. We ordered the veg platter as starter and it was really good but we didn’t like the mutton curry. We were hoping it would be Indian spicy but it was made of coconut gravy with very mild spices, not something we were expecting. But it is definitely worth trying if you are looking for indian food in Amsterdam (just discuss the spice level, before ordering:) ) Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person €10–20 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Vegetable Samosa
Been here during the last week of 2023, so did hundreds of other ppl. Too crowded but the food was on the table just on time. Ambience: It’s a big area to fit a small office party. Can look jam packed during the weekdays. Food: ordered Kozhambu chicken & dessert. The flavours were amazing. Loved the chicken kozhambu, however their proportion was just sufficient for one person :/ Naan was soft and puffed. Loved the jaggery coconut dessert. Pricing: It was decently priced for 2 ppl. Suggestion: they have a big menu and it would be good to stick to Tamil Nadu cuisine or just to have smaller menu in which they specialize. More options can confuse people and ultimately most curries will taste the same. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person €10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

Excellent, authentic tasting South Indian food! They have an exciting menu starting from the drinks. Items like thattu idli which will be hard to find outside of Southern India. The food was brimming with flavor and the service was super friendly. Highly recommend and a place to check out when in Amsterdam especially if you like South indian flavors. The Madras Diaries was recommended to us by a family friend for being very authentic and delicious South Indian food. It's a bustling restaurant in a touristy part of Amsterdam, but don't let that deter you from coming! It was super packed when we went, and got increasingly more busy as the night progressed. We did not have a reservation but they sat us immediately. We got three starters, two main courses, and a Mysore Masala Dosa. Our three starters were some Medu Vadai, Onion Pakoda, and Chemeen (shrimp) fry (all not pictured, because we dug in immediately 😂). For the two mains, we had some egg roast and fish curry; both were excellent and came with paratha and some rice, respectively! The Mysore Masala Dosa was, of course, very delicious. I agree with other reviewers: it has a homestyle feel to both the cooking and service. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. When we are back in Amsterdam, I will definitely return! Madras is my home town and I can say that this place is legit. Tasty food, flavorful (not spicy for the sake of being spicy) and wonderful variety of authentic and commercial offerings on the menu. Skip the “tikka masalas” and “naan breads” and please try dosas, idly, sam bar etc. Nice staff and great location in Ams. One of the best places to have South Indian food. We visited the restaurant for their Onam Sandhya and I must say everything was absolutely divine and delicious. Their hospitality was top notch and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for authentic Indian food in Amsterdam. The staff is very well trained and they really offer great service. The ambience is also very nice unlike a few other typical Indian restaurants in Amsterdam.
