Upon walking in, nobody arrived at the counter to help us for a few minutes. The smørbrød available sat in the fridge, and we're unfortunately quite dry. They did taste good, but they certainly didn't taste fresh, and were extremely overpriced. Otherwise, it was a beautiful day to sit outside and have a cup of coffee and some food.
Unfortunately a fairly bad restaurant/cafe, which is a great shame, because the museum is lovely and the location and view is great. It is quite overpriced, even for Norway (I am Norwegian, so I'm used to our cafe and restaurant prices), compared to the food selection the have, which is not very impressive. My receipt to me sums up what seems to be the attitude of the place: a piece of apple pie for 70 kr (not unheard of, but steep), and then an added 10 kr for a bit of whipped cream! When I was asked if I wanted whipped cream, I actually assumed it would be included in the asking price. Not that 10 kr matters much one way or the other, it's just a really awful way to do business. I sincerely hope the people who run the museum and restaurant can get together and figure out how to improve this place, because there aren't really any other nearby alternatives for lunch, and the Henie Onstad Art Center is a nice place to visit in just about every other way.
Excellent coffee, sandwiches, cakes and lunch dishes and very pleasant staff and premises. The museum, restaurant and shop are open. Several beautiful walks nearby, or along the fjord to Det norske Veritas and further to Høvik boat club.
The view from the terrace is lovely. The prices are high but that's not unusual in a place like this.
What is unusual is that the fish soup, which was not all that good and had a piece of fish in it that did NOT taste fresh, also contained what could only be a hair from someone's beard. While such unfortunate incidents can happen, the response from the waitress behind the counter was NOT very impressive. She received the half eaten bowl of soup, with the hair clearly on the edge of the bowl, said "ok", and took the bowl away.
No apology, no offer of a new bowl of soup or something else instead.
In my opinion that is UNACCEPTABLE customer service. Shame on you, Piruetten. There is no way we are coming back for anything other than a glass of wine,
The food and coffee is actually very nice, but the staff is incredibly rude and non responsive to requests. I’d refrain from hire somebody non-service oriented bringing the food out.
Great place with a really nice atmosphere. We have enjoyed the food and the view. I will definitely come back eather for familly dinner or coffee with friends!!
