Heading home from Toledo decided to stop at the Old Barn Restaurant and Grill in Lima. I have mixed feelings about this establishment, as it has so much potential. I give my experience here a solid 3 stars. Being a Saturday the buffet was $20 for adults. The featured item was prime rib. The prime rib was very good. The buffet spread is smaller than I expected. There was ham, BBQ chicken wings, chicken & noodles, fried chicken, cooked carrots, corn with black beans, mashed potatoes. Basic salad bar with a couple of salad sides such as cottage cheese and potato salad. The dessert selection was very minimal with options. Two kinds of pie, apple and blueberry cream, chocolate cake, cookies, soft serve, and brownies. I would suggest, if you visit to not arrive right at 4:30 pm when they first open like I did. The steam tables did not have a chance to get up to full temp. The desserts pictured are the blueberry cream pie, brownie, and soft serve. I was disappointed in all three. The soft serve was ice milk, barely held its form after being dispensed. No way you could put it in a cone. The flavoring of the vanilla and chocolate were very weak and artificial tasting. Little Debbie makes a far better brownie, and the blueberry cream pie was lacking blueberries and flavor. The blueberry pie tasted like a nondairy whipped cream without the addition of vanilla flavoring. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the building and feel this place would be a hot spot if the food quality was raised. I feel the cost per person is steep for what you are receiving.
