Almost hesitant to recommend this, truly unique and iconic spot. I’ve been coming here for almost 15 years, and it remains superb and entirely consistent. I LOVE Highway 3!! Absolutely great food, and enough variety on the New Orleans style menu for everyone to find something they will want. And, of course, the essentially perfect hurricane cocktail. The owner is iconic as well and greets you as you walk in, a true gentleman, and extremely gracious. But be forewarned, this establishment is only open from 4 PM to 8 PM Wednesday through Friday. The desserts are also amazing, highlighted by the light and perfectly created beignets. The indoor - outdoor dining experience is also excellent, with a wide variety of options. Truly a great atmosphere. Highly recommended!! Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $50–100 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Sliders
I tried two dishes for the first time, so have nothing really to compare the dishes too. The Gator bites were delicious and is quite a dry white meat-the rub and accompanying sauce were welcome condiments. The catfish sandwich was something to itself. Very much a bottom-feeder with a moderate "muddy" odor. It was something I am glad I tried, but likely will not try again, but that is more a reflection of my personal taste and less on the restaurant's food. All in all the service was excellent and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming New Orleans vibe. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $30–50 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
This review is going to be contrary to what's posted, but when my wife and I visited, upon the recommendation of friends & coworkers, needless to say, we both were NOT IMPRESSED. We arrived at 4:00 pm in hopes to get a table before they got busy but were greeted with a 20 minute wait already. I took that as a good sign. Then I saw the lame political sign on the front door. I should have taken that as a sign of things to come. Food: I ordered the catfish (on special) with coleslaw & fries. My wife ordered the etouffee with collards. We also ordered alligator bites and a half dozen oysters. The etouffee tasted like a bowl of bland, brown rice. The shrimp were not flavorful. All the flavors were muddled. The collards were VERY salty. But due to bacon, it was passable. My catfish was a sad disgrace. For $25, I received two pieces about 4"-5". The alligator bites were so small, I almost asked our waitress if they were popcorn shrimp. The oysters while good, had ENTIRELY too much cheese. Drinks: The Bloody Mary was lackluster, not in the least bit spicy & on the weak side. For a place that bills itself as a creole/cajon restaurant, they only had two Abita beers. The rest of their beer list was standard domestics or some local brews. Not impressed. Service: The service was terrific and the best part of visiting here. She was attentive and friendly. For $148, I could have gone to Homeslice Pizza and gotten a FAR SUPERIOR meal. We'll never come back here. Probably the biggest hyped up, rip-off in Durango. We love coming to highway 3 for raw oysters and a unique menu you can’t compare to anywhere else in town. Love the relaxed atmosphere and service is always great. Just wish they were open all week long! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

*My rating is purely on customer service, not the food* I visit Durango about once every month and I always come visit this restaurant. I have spent A LOT of money here because their food is really great. I am currently pregnant and beignets sounded amazing. I got back to my hotel and there isn’t any powdered sugar on them. I obviously tried to take a bite but it doesn’t taste very good, just fried dough. It’s $11 for beignets and when I tried to call to see what could be done they told me they were sorry and there wasn’t anything they could do, but hopefully they could make it up next time. So I am just out the money even though I didn’t even get what I paid for. I would’ve gone back tonight but I have been traveling all day and being 6 months pregnant I’m just simply exhausted. I would’ve even taken rain check for tomorrow. I don’t know if I’ll be returning because why spend money at a place that clearly doesn’t value it? What a find! Off the road, back of the back, with atmosphere you read about but seldom find. Fried okra and catfish were outstanding. Shrimp etouffee was succulent, smokey, with chopped classic in the gravy...awesome. Bread pudding made my meal complete! Service was cheerful, friendly. We will DEFINITELY be back one day. Popcorn shrimp was soft, not crispy. Gumbo was bland. Oysters were good. Chocolate bourbon pecan pie was good, but the crust was more like dense bread. Service was excellent. Very noisy for this old boomer. I'd go back, though, and try some other dishes. We ordered 1 dozen fresh oysters that were served with many shell fragments in each one, then we ordered the lobster roll. Needless to say this wasn't the best either There was a seasoning added to the lobster that took away from the taste of the lobster itself. We have dined here many times but this is the last! The cost of the meal did not equal the quality of the food. Food: 1 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
I didn’t get the experience of food, service and atmosphere. We were traveling and stopped in Durango. I. Used to live there and was really looking forward to eating out at a place that would be a little elevated and unusual. We did the usual lookup on the internet and we saw this place and wanted to try it. We called ahead to make reservations and were told that since it was only two of we wouldn’t need reservations and that they weren’t busy. We did have a hard time finding it just like the review said it was after dark and raining, not ideal when you are trying to find a hidden gem. When we finally found it, it took us a while to park. Not much room in their lot for a full sized truck. We were happy to get there (around 7:30 pm) and looking forward to having a good dinner. We were met at the door with a gal who was holding a piece of paper saying they were closed. My husband explained that we were from out of town, the difficulties we had finding the place, and that his wife (me) was looking forward to a nice meal and dining out experience. The were obviously serving people because we saw other patrons inside. She told us that they didn’t have enough servers and/or staff to accommodate us. For two people, REALLY? So, my nice date night with dinner on the town ended up at Applebees. Yeehaw! (Not that Applebees wasn’t OK). But thanks Roadhouse, I had a great experience! The owner is rude, and replies like a petty child to customer reviews. It doesn't take a restaurant critic to know what a BAD Oyster tastes like. Not Cajun. Definitely not. 🤮 👎 Their Oysters taste like pure mud. I have never ever eaten an Oyster that taste like a mud puddle. Oysters taste like the ocean. I'm so glad I only ordered the 6, all six were gross. I will never order those again. The quality was soo poor I don't trust to ever order their Oysters again. The tacos were the smallest baby sized street tacos I've ever seen. The slaw tasted like pure white vinegar. And there was only 4 little jalf inch cubes of fish..what a let down. I ate the fish but the vinegar made the rest of the tacos absolutely inedible. 🤮 Martinis were served to my table still in the shaker.. that's not ideal. Additional time just sitting in the shaker ice just over dilutes the cocktail. The waitress seemed genuinely confused by me ordering a Gin Martini. Sorry. It's a classic standard cocktail. It has been a thing for well over a hundred years. She asked me three or four times if I meant to order a Dirty Martini. I answered No each time. And by the last time I was pretty confused why she kept asking me. I tried to politely say, "No. I would like a standard Gin Martini. I'd like Beefeater Dry London Gin with Dry Vermouth over Ice. NO olive brine please. If olive brine is added that's what's called a "Dirty"-Martini. The gf crab cake was just ok. Unfortunately it was the best dish I would get for my dinner. The staff was good. They were attentative to refill water and take empty plates. The location feels very hidden at best. I'm not able to see it from the road and I didnt notice a sign or indicator where to park or where the entrance was..It took a few minutes to wonder around and find. Made me think Google maps had given me wrong directions. I don't expect you to move the building, im not saying you need Vegas lights..but a couple of signs would save soo many visitors from the confusion. They may just eat elsewhere if they have to search for a restaurant. I almost couldn't find the place. This is one of the very few places IN Durango that any local has recommended for dining to us. I was very excited to get some comfort food and have a great date nite. I fail to understand the experience. We won't be back. I'm convinced there's nothing good to eat in Durango, except for my house. Meal type Dinner Price per person $100+ Food: 1 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3
