We went for dinner to De Beren after a year or so, and we were impressed with how the quality of this restaurant has decreased. We ordered some dishes to share, and realized that the amount of food is incredibly small (I understand the effect of inflation, but this was a bit exaggerated). Just to give an example, we paid 8€ for a dish, called "empanadas", which was just 4 tiny mini-empanadas that you can find in the section of frozen food from the supermarket. I consider it a bit too expensive to pay 2€ for each of them at the restaurant. It was the same with some stuffed fries that we ordered, pretty expensive but we got a really small bowl... and the same happened with the rest of the dishes. In the end, we paid a total of 60€ for 2 people, and we left the restaurant still hungry. It's really sad to see De Beren losing quality like this, as it was a very nice restaurant some years ago. Their terrace is located at the old 'Carlas' location 🏙 in the newly built part of Alphen aan de Rijn, it could not have turned out better ☀. Prices are not too expensive and the people working are doing great job when it's really busy. New favourite place in Alphen? 🤔

Although De Beren is a chain, the owner managed to make this something special. For starters the large beer selection, the nice building, the very kid staff and foremost the well prepared food. Loved it and celebrated a great birthday.

We had lunch today in this restaurant. Great!!! I don't think I left anything on my plate. As you can see on the pictures, the inside of the restaurant looks amazing. The service was excellent. They only thing I did not like was the location of the restrooms. You had to climb up a pretty big stair. A not done for me, having trouble with walking. But that's the only thing and perhaps I overlooked a downstairs restroom??

The food was absolutely delicious (special mention to the Black Angus Burger which totally rocks; I even ordered it again when I came for the second time), and the team is really nice, professional and responsive. The owner is probably the nicest guy ever and made us a very cool and warm welcome. Many thanks again for everything you did during the SMK WK 2019 !

Sharing platter.... the food was okay to start with but soon went down hill. The spare ribs was overcooked and dry (I suspect microwave). The Apple crumble tasted as though someone had forgotten to put sugar in the crumble topping. We booked in advance but when we got there they had no record of us booking. Most of the waitresses looked as though they were there just to make up the numbers. We was seated upstairs and felt like we was put there because we didn't have a reservation even though we had booked. It was cold and draughty and because of the don't give a toss attitude of the waitress it wasn't even investigated when I mention it, the place is crying out for a restaurant manager. BTW I know what I'm talking about as I've been in the catering trade for over 20 years. I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon.
