Come here for some rest after a long walk around Marine Barracks Washington, 8th and I. The tasty flavours of Mediterranean and Turkish cuisines attract a number of customers. To try perfectly cooked lamb shanks, lamb cutlets and pepperoni pizza is a truly nice idea. Good yogurt is the recipe for success of this bar. Get your meal started with delicious wine, martinis or margaritas. Coffee lovers will find it great. Food delivery is a big plus of Cafe 8. The friendly staff reflects the style and character of this place. Prompt service is something clients appreciate here. You are to be pleasantly impressed with fair prices at this spot. I’m not sure who recommend this place but it’s so rough. $30 for a hookah?! Better be good… Nope, it’s a mini hookah that overheats almost instantly and they gave me a quick lite coal that wasn’t fully lit. No thanks. I would have said 2 stars but that knocked it down to 1. Food included microwaved veggies with no flavor and plastic cutlery in a takeout bag. $1 for an 8oz bottle of water and they added a 20% service fee to the check.

I have been a long time customer and tonight I was disrespected amongst other women. It was the same guy that was disrespectful and he has never been rude until tonight. I know they have a new boss but the boss was nicer than him. I asked to have the hookah until my Uber came, the boss said okay and this man was just super ugly and he did the same thing to another woman. It was very much I don’t like black people when all they service is black folk. But they were so rude and I don’t respect the behavior and I will come back and say something to the exact man who did it.

Mixed feelings on this place. The hookah was $30 which feels pricey but it was a good hookah and a decent selection of flavors to choose from. I had to ask for our hookah to get serviced after awhile but then they started routinely coming around to service hookahs as you would expect at a hookah bar. We had a tough time getting our server’s attention to order more drinks, food, etc. The food took a very long time and I’m pretty sure the pizza was just a microwave pizza but the chicken kebab was good. I liked the overall vibe - it was definitely lively. They played hip hop music and I guess Tuesday nights are “game night” so they had several board games you could grab and play at your table if you’re into that. I spent a year in Turkey and more in Germany where I frequented Turkish hookah (nargile) bars so I understand that my standards are pretty high, and most hookah bars in the US are just not good. This is probably in the top 5 of what I’ve been to in the US for what it’s worth.

Took a Lyft on Friday December 22nd from Hells Kitchen to Cafe 8 arrived at 2pm. The website says they open at 130pm yet we waited 30 min watching someone inside sweep the floors. We also called while we waited outside and nobody answered. They never even came to unlock the door so we had to catch another Lyft home back to Maryland. What a wasted trip and disappointment. You all need to update your hours or open on time. We can definitely won't be back.

Came Sunday evening. Sammy was our waiter, he was very busy being the only server there. We were seated immediately/open seating. Food came out at a decent time. Hookah was fine. Nice laid back lounge. Only complaints were bathroom were not clean, air circulation is poor with windows/door open and ceiling fan going it was still very humid inside.
