We visited a few days ago by chance and were pleasantly surprised. The food tasted very fresh and good and its location in center ins very convenient. The baked sweet potato and flat bread were exceptional. Good ambience and friendly staff. Will visit again! Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4

Putting it plain and simple, this was very underwhelming. After seeing an average rating of 4.4, I thought it would not be a miss if I went here for breakfast. Well, it was. I ordered a kimchi toastie - which wasn’t bad - it’s just beyond underwhelming especially for the price of 9€. You get a simple sandwich with fake cheese and “kimchi” aka iceberg lettuce with chili flakes on top of it. Next, the chai latte was ok but it had cold foam… and my friend ordered the açaí bowl which had four pieces of kiwi on it… just very pricey for the quality… as is the problem with many places in the Netherlands. Amazing vegan joint in Rotterdam. If you haven't tried the Bitterballen, do yourself a favour! The smoothie bowls are also excellent. This is what our green smoothie bowl looked like. Small portion prices for the price & it wasn't too noteworthy. Nice ambiance inside. Storage of food downstairs is not the neatest, we saw a mouse scurry across as we left the restaurant. Really enjoyed my first eat in experience at Backyard. Food came out quickly, exactly what I ordered. “Salmon” sandwich tasted lovely, but presentation could’ve been a little better. Bean burger patty was too dry and falling apart; hard to get right, anyway. Coffee was nice as well. I’m happy to see Rotterdam embracing vegan food and offering good tasting comfort food. If you're looking for a nice vegan restaurant in the area, you should try this place! The staff is friendly and the interior atmosphere is good. I especially loved the design, with the unique tree made from wood pieces. They have an interesting menu with options for vegans and vegetarians. We tried the snack plate and the local beer called Outlander and they were both really tasty. I can't speak to the other meals or drinks, but for us, it was a great experience. We were headed to a concert at the Luxor Theatre and wanted to eat something healthy beforehand, and this was the good spot. The only downside to this restaurant is that if you're a meat lover, it may not be the best fit for you. I'm not vegan (completely the opposite) and I'm not exactly a fan of vegan versions of some dishes. That being said, I do recognize they serve a high quality menu, using good ingredients and offering a variety of options to whose that want go far from animal origin dishes.
