Wow, Anthony’s donuts look so wonderful—look too pretty to eat! When I go to a donut shop for the first time, I usually like to ask which one is their freshest donut and try that one to get a feel for their quality. I ask the man and he opened his arms out to the side and responded “They’re ALL FRESH!” Well, he obviously didn’t take my question literally, which is fine, so I chose a standard yeast donut—another way to get a feel for a new spot’s baseline. Let me tell you that this was one of the stalest donuts I’ve ever had from a mom & pop type donut shop. I would not have been so disappointed if he didn’t make such a grand gesture of the freshness of ALL his donuts. I may consider trying again because the Eastside doesn’t have too many options and they may have improved since.
